Privacy notice

Last updated October 5, 2026.

This notice explains how galas.ca collects, uses and protects personal information, in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where it applies, Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector.

What we collect

  • Listing, correction and removal requests: your name, email, optional phone number and organization, and the event details you send us.
  • Event planning requests and professional applications: your name, email, optional phone number and organization, the event or business details you give us (such as event type, location, date, guest count, budget range, services needed and portfolio links), and a record of your consent.
  • Form context: when you submit a form we keep the page you sent it from, the referring page and any campaign tags in the link (such as utm_source), so we know how people find us. We briefly keep a one-way, non-reversible fingerprint of your IP address to block spam.

We don't use advertising or tracking cookies, and we don't sell personal information. Campaign tags are held only in your browser's session storage until you close the tab.

If you save galas to "My saved galas", the list is kept only in your browser's local storage and is sent to galas.ca only as gala identifiers when you open the saved page or download its calendar file; we don't store it or link it to you. If you tap "Near me", your browser asks for permission and your location is used on your device to sort the list; it is never sent to galas.ca.

How we use it

We use this information only to review and respond to your request, to publish or correct listings, to connect planning requests with event professionals (and professionals with people planning events) where you've agreed, and to keep the site secure. We don't use it for any other purpose without your consent.

Who processes it

We use service providers to run galas.ca: Cloudflare (hosting and database), our customer-relationship management system (GoHighLevel) and our email delivery service (Resend). They may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. They may only use it to provide their services to us. With your consent, we also share request or application details with the people we introduce you to; they are responsible for how they then handle that information.

How long we keep it

We keep request details for as long as needed to handle the request and maintain the listing. We then delete or anonymize them, subject to any legal retention requirement.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see or correct the personal information we hold about you, withdraw your consent, or ask us to delete it, through our contact form. If you have concerns about how we've handled your information, you can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Event information

Listings contain information organizations have published about public events. We don't list private individuals' personal information.
